15 Leading Credit Unions in Auto Loan Penetration Raise the Bar for the Industry

Credit unions, by making auto loans available at affordable rates, do not only play a key role in empowering millions of members to own cars - they also thus shape our national culture and fuel our economy.

Many credit unions' exceptional rates and high levels of service do not go unnoticed by their members, as shown by the high auto loan penetration of the credit unions in the table below. This list includes the top 15 credit unions over $20 million in assets ranked by auto loan penetration. The credit unions below all show penetrations of 39.78% or greater, compared with the average auto loan penetration for credit unions over $20 million in assets of 15.47%.

  • The stats were okay, but would have helped would have been interviews with people from these credit unions to tell us HOW their ratio is so high. What do they do that everyone else doesn't? Stats alone tell us nothing.

  • It would be interesting to look at two other factors for these credit unions. How many indirect loans did they report for the past year? What is deliquency for their portfolio after taking out real estate and credit card delinquency? That would be a good estimate of the delinquency in the auto loan portfolio.
