The response to our July survey was overwhelming; over 450 credit unions provided invaluable input on their experiences and future plans with the Internet. We also did a financial performance comparison of credit unions with successful home banking programs vs. the average peer credit union of the same size. Below is a summary of some of the highlights of the final report which appear in Callahan's 2nd Quarter Research & Data Report, available now!

Home Banking in Credit Unions

  • 329 of the 460 responding credit unions (71.5 percent) currently provide Internet home banking services to their members (this does not include dial-up home banking through a modem).
  • The majority of responding credit unions (79 percent) do not charge members to use the home banking service.
  • Internet home banking at credit unions has gained in popularity as time and technology have provided institutions with the means to serve their members in a quicker and more efficient manner. This growth can be seen below:
