The Recovery Sputters

It's been a disappointing first half of the year for the US economy, with a particularly weak second quarter. In our view, there are three issues in particular weighing on growth: high gas prices, fiscal tightening in the US and fiscal stress in Europe, and potential bright spots including improved household debt levelsand potential for improvement in cyclicals.
