It’s GAC time again, and with all the strategy sessions, congressional visits, speeches, schmoozing, and networking, you’re likely to work up an appetite. At CreditUnions.com, we’re all about providing best practices for running a credit union, but as DC locals, we’re also happy to provide tips for eating in our city.
The Ramen Shop At Daikaya
It’s snowing and the Weather Channel predicts it will snow again on Wednesday, so a nice bowl of warm ramen might be in order between break out sessions or to cap off a long day of Hill visits. We recommend Diakaya, a small eatery located at 705 6th St. NW across from the Verizon Center. It’s a simple menu featuring piping hot bowls of the Japanese soup topped with scallions, bean sprouts, and crumbled meat.
Upstairs at Tony Cheng’s
Tony Cheng’s Seafood Restaurant is a classic DC establishment with which many veteran GACer’s are likely already familiar. At Tony Cheng’s you have two options, the all-you-can-eat Mongolian barbecue downstairs or the restaurant upstairs. We recommend dim sum at the Chinese restaurant upstairs. Get cooperative. Bring your new friends from GAC, and order a sampling of small plates to share. You can’t miss the kitschy entrance to Tony Cheng’s at 621 H St. NW, near the Chinatown arches on H Street between 6th and 7th.
Momiji Restaurant
If you have a taste for sushi, Momiji is your place. Stop in for lunch or happy hour from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to take advantage of some of the best deals on the block. If you want to go full DC, order the Capital Roll: tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and white tuna wrapped in fresh seaweed, smoked eel, and avocado or the White House Roll: tuna, white tuna, and steamed lobster served with soybean paper. Unfortunately the signature rolls aren’t part of the happy hour deal. Momiji is located at 505 H St. NW.
