Credit unions in Virginia had the highest percentage of credit card loans to total loans, with credit card loans comprising 15.77% of its loan portfolio as of June 2013, up 73 basis points from the previous year. Excluding Navy and Pentagon, Virginia’s credit unions still reported the highest credit card concentration rate of 9.60% in the second quarter. Florida came in second with 8.67%, down from 8.98% in the previous June. Maryland’s credit unions rounded out the top three with 8.26% in credit card concentration.
Credit unions nationwide reported 6.44% in credit card concentration in the second quarter of 2013, up 11 basis points from the same quarter last year. While both credit card loans and total loans increased over the past year, the faster growth in credit card loans pushed up the credit card concentration rate.
