He was arguably the greatest coach the NFL has ever seen, but it’s doubtful that any team today is using Vince Lombardi’s playbook. As successful as he was, times have changed — and so have league rules.
Pro sports aren’t the only organizations to make rules changes. Nacha does that too. Matter of fact, it made amendments to the Nacha Operating Rules as recently as October 2024. And you don’t need a crystal ball to see four rules changes regarding risk management topics are coming in 2026 or that Nacha recently solicited comments on two proposed rules amendments for Same Day ACH. But you do need to visit to Nacha’s website.
In other words, if you’re using a version of the Nacha Operating Rules that dates back to the Green Bay Packers’ last Super Bowl win — which was in 2010, for the record — you’re surrounding yourself with old and sometimes incorrect information.
The 2025 Nacha Operating Rules and Guidelines is the brand-new, hot-off-the-press version. There are myriad reasons to be sure it’s the version you’re using; perhaps the most crucial one is that it will help you comply with the Nacha Rules. Rules compliance is crucial to making and receiving quality payments for all ACH Network participants. Credit unions and banks of all sizes need to follow the Nacha Rules whether they are on Main Street or Wall Street.
By the way, Nacha has staff dedicated to ensuring rules compliance. You don’t want to wind up on their bad side, and you really don’t want to be found out of compliance, which could lead to a fine.
And although we use the phrase “hot off the press,” that doesn’t mean you have to have that big book on your desk — although you’re most welcome to. There’s an Online Resource as well as an app for the rules. You do you. Pick the version that works best. Just be sure to have the 2025 Nacha Operating Rules and Guidelines at your fingertips. Trust us, our compliance folks will be happy that you do.
