We want to extend a personal invitation to join us for the launch of this new series on May 9th at 2 pm EST.

Join us for a candid conversation about Steve’s three-pronged approach to partnerships — with CUSOs, community leaders, and other local businesses — and how that impacts the credit union’s broader strategy. Recent successes include becoming a Citi Network Partner, bringing banking services to financial deserts in Chicago by partnering with The Leaders Network, and joining Coopera to advance the credit union’s multicultural strategic pillar.

Get To Know Our Guest:

Steve Bugg joined Great Lakes Credit Union in May 2018. A year later, they merged in tiny North Side Community Federal Credit Union, a CDFI and low income-designated credit union in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood, with a vision of scaling up their HUD-certified, grant-funded housing and financial education program. Bringing NSFCU into the fold allowed Great Lakes to utilize its low-income designation, and the cooperative has subsequently expanded the HUD-certified program and now considers it part of its fundamental mission to financially strengthen vulnerable members of its community. Today, this sets the stage for the credit union to better tell its story and set it apart from all other competitors.

This is just one example of how Great Lakes leverages partnerships to help it achieve more than it can do on its own. “If mission work is within your credit union’s strategic goals and objectives, then find those partnership opportunities to develop and make it happen,” says Bugg. “There are lots of opportunities out there — industry leaders just need to get out of the office and out into the community to find them.”
