The Importance Of Budgeting And Saving At All Stages Of Life

After months of building trust with a member, Chromwyll learned more about the challenges he was facing. At 72 years old, the member was still working two part-time jobs just to make ends meet. One day, he came in visibly stressed and shared everything piling up at once: his car registration was due, his phone needed replacement, his work shoes were falling apart, and a delay with his tax return had disrupted his plans.

Chromwyll took the time to listen and understand the full picture before jumping to solutions. Together, they decided a personal loan would help pay off an existing loan while providing the cash flow needed to keep working. During the process, Chromwyll also identified an opportunity to refinance the member’s auto loan, lowering the rate and shortening the loan term by a year. While reviewing his credit report, Chromwyll noticed two high-interest credit cards from another institution. The member qualified for a credit limit increase with us and benefited from a promotional balance transfer rate, creating meaningful savings. With this being the member’s first year receiving SSI and a confirmed increase in monthly income, Chromwyll also discussed the importance of budgeting and building an emergency fund. The member agreed to meet with a financial specialist to create a plan, pay down debt, and begin saving.

By asking thoughtful questions and leveraging a trusted relationship, Chromwyll helped strengthen this member’s financial stability during a critical moment
