Financial Help To Move Ahead And Give Back

Anthony Barton joined State Employees’ Credit Union 18 years ago, shortly after getting married and while balancing work, school, and a growing household. At a time when money was tight, SECU’s low- and no-fee services gave him and his wife affordable support as he worked toward a degree in education.

Those early benefits stayed with Barton as his career progressed in the public school system. He built relationships with staff he trusted and felt comfortable turning to when he wanted to consolidate debt and create space for new financial goals.

“The staff went above and beyond to help me consolidate my personal loan and line of credit into a single debt consolidation loan with a lower interest rate,” Barton said. “Thanks to their guidance, I’m now saving over $700 a month. It’s made a tremendous difference in my financial wellbeing and given me real peace of mind.”

Barton credits Pembroke branch staff Brittany and Beatrice for their professionalism, kindness, and genuine commitment to his success. He also values SECU’s not-for-profit model and member-first approach.

“SECU doesn’t use a one-size-fits-all approach,” he said. “It truly feels like a family of people working together to put members’ financial needs first.”

That philosophy inspired Barton, now a school principal who is active in the community, to give back by serving on the Pembroke Branch Advisory Board.

“I can share SECU’s benefits with others, listen to member concerns, and bring that feedback back to the branch,” he said.
