At the American Legion State Convention in Wildwood, NJ, our Navy Federal team met Gunnery Sergeant Purkins. As the saying goes, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”
Gunny embodies the very best of military service — leadership, loyalty, integrity, and a deep commitment to helping others — paired with a warm smile and larger-than-life personality. A proud Navy Federal member since 1978, Gunny has relied on its products and services for nearly five decades. His family has financed 21 vehicles through Navy Federal, valuing the competitive rates and dependable service he has come to trust.
Throughout the convention, Navy Federal’s table became a gathering place. Veterans, family members, and passersby stopped to listen as Gunny shared stories of how Navy Federal supported his family through deployments, relocations, and life’s milestones — often encouraging others to become members. His appreciation extends beyond words. Gunny regularly mails Navy Federal swag — provided by his local branch — to fellow veterans and friends, paying the postage himself because he believes small gestures can brighten someone’s day. Through nearly five decades of membership, Gunny has become more than a member — he is a true ambassador for Navy Federal Credit Union.
