A longtime Day Air Credit Union member and grandmother in Dayton, Ohio worked for years toward a single goal: stable homeownership for herself and the family she helps support. Living on a modest income as a caregiver, she had limited access to affordable credit through traditional lenders. Over time, Day Air supported her with responsible small-dollar loans and affordable auto financing, including helping her grandson secure his first vehicle so he could reliably get to work and school. In April 2025, she reached a major milestone by purchasing her first home. Shortly after moving in, a lightning strike caused severe damage to the home’s electrical system and HVAC, resulting in more than $30,000 in repairs. When her homeowner’s insurance denied coverage, she faced the risk of serious financial distress and housing instability. Day Air stepped in with a family-centered stabilization approach by consolidating her existing Day Air signature loan and credit card balance into one affordable loan, reducing her monthly payments by over $100 and increasing household cash flow by more than $1,200 annually. She was also referred to Trinity Credit Counseling for additional support. As a result, she avoided predatory lending, preserved safe and stable housing, and regained financial breathing room during an unexpected crisis. She shared that without Day Air’s support, she may have faced unsafe living conditions or even the loss of her home, but instead remains securely housed and on a path toward long-term financial stability.
