A long-time member, who relocated out of state several years ago, has continued to maintain her banking relationship with the credit union. Since her move, she has faced a series of difficult personal and financial challenges.
After being diagnosed with a tumor that required treatment, her work hours were significantly reduced, which led to financial hardship. As a result, she fell behind on several obligations, including loans with the credit union and basic expenses such as utilities. With support from our team, she was able to stay current on her loans and begin getting her finances back on track.
Over the past year, her situation became even more challenging as she went through a divorce from an abusive partner and was later laid off from a long-term job. Because she had previously enrolled in debt protection coverage through the credit union, we were able to file a claim on her behalf. Although the claim was approved, she fortunately regained employment and did not need to utilize the coverage. Knowing that support was available still provided her with significant peace of mind.
Most recently, she was involved in a motor vehicle accident that resulted in the loss of her only vehicle. The insurance payout did not fully cover the remaining loan balance, and the GAP coverage she had purchased through the dealership had expired, leaving her responsible for the difference. As a single-income, subprime borrower, securing financing for a replacement vehicle presented additional challenges within high-risk lending guidelines.
Despite these obstacles, our team worked diligently to find a solution. After reviewing several options, we were able to approve financing for a reliable vehicle slightly outside standard guidelines. This allowed her to maintain reliable transportation for work and begin rebuilding her life with renewed stability.
We are proud to support our members during their most challenging times by providing not only financial solutions, but also peace of mind and the confidence to move forward.
