A Roof Over Their Heads And A Community At Their Side

Suncoast Credit Union

Long-time members came into a branch deeply concerned about potentially losing their home. With only three weeks remaining on their homeowners insurance policy, they were required to replace their entire roof in order to renew coverage. After being denied a personal loan elsewhere, they felt overwhelmed and unsure of what to do next.
A team member took the time to fully understand their situation and worked diligently to ensure they were matched with the right solution. Through additional coordination and advocacy, we were able to secure a home equity loan that provided the necessary funds to replace the roof and avoid immediate insurance cancellation. Although the roof replacement was completed just days after the renewal deadline and the insurance policy was dropped, there was still a path forward.

A new insurance provider inspected the home but required additional exterior cleanup, including removal of vines and overgrowth along the house and fence, before coverage could be issued. Recognizing the members’ limitations, our team viewed this as an opportunity to take action beyond financial services. A volunteer effort was quickly organized, and employees donated their time to assist. Together with family members, they removed the overgrowth and completed the required work, something the members could not physically do themselves.

This was a true labor of love in support of an elderly couple in need. Beyond the immediate impact, the experience reflected the heart of community service and the power of people helping people. The members were able to secure insurance, remain in their home, and were deeply grateful for the care and commitment shown during a very stressful time.
