Lifestyle and accessibility needs brought long-time members to the credit union to discuss home lending options. After deciding to sell their home and move in with their daughter, they were looking for ways to make the process as smooth and worthwhile as possible. Our loan officers were able to assist them with a HELOC so they could update the home they were selling, ultimately helping them secure the best possible price.
What may seem like a simple transaction to some stood out to us as credit union employees. After more than four decades of membership with TN Members 1st, these members knew exactly where to turn for help as they navigated a major life event. With our support, they were able to complete the home updates, sell the home, and move in with their daughter.
For context, they built the home in 2008 and drew the full HELOC amount shortly after closing to complete several upgrades. These included refinishing the bathrooms, updating the kitchen countertops, painting the interior and exterior, and converting the basement into a mother-in-law suite. They completed the improvements and sold the home within one year. We later learned that shortly after moving, the member became quite ill, and we were grateful to know she was able to be with family during that time.
