A member successfully used GLCU’s homebuyer education and counseling program to reach her goal of becoming a first-time homeowner. She wanted a two-flat unit for her and her daughters. She wanted control over her living comfort. GLCU worked with the member to set a budget, improve her credit, and change her behavior. She eventually was able to buy a property where she lives in one unit and her daughters live in the other, and her financial breakthrough has inspired her own daughter to also become a member and work to attain her goals.

The GLCU Foundation for Financial Empowerment supports our members and community with tools, resources, and services to enhance their budget, credit improvement, obtain rental housing, become first-time homebuyer, home maintenance, and foreclosure intervention. For the past several years, we have worked with more than 1,000 clients every year in the housing and financial education program and have saved over $40 million in assets for homes that would have otherwise been lost to foreclosure during challenging financial times.
