More Than A Loan: A Story Of Support And Resilience

RiverFall Credit Union

Each spring, RiverFall Credit Union awards three college tuition scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Below is an excerpt from an essay submitted by one of the 2026 recipients.

“Being a member of RiverFall Credit Union has had a meaningful impact on both my family and my personal perspective, especially through an experience that taught me resilience, responsibility, and the value of community support. When I was 16 years old, my parents and I worked with RiverFall Credit Union to finance my first car. It was an exciting milestone for me. However, just 11 days after I began driving, another driver ran a red light and hit me, totaling my car. What should have been a joyful experience quickly turned into a stressful and discouraging situation. During that difficult time, RiverFall became more than just a financial institution — they became a support system. Instead of leaving us overwhelmed, they worked closely with my family to find a solution. They helped us pay off the original loan and quickly approved a new loan so I could purchase another vehicle. Their efficiency, understanding, and willingness to help made an incredibly stressful situation manageable. Because of them, I was able to get back on the road safely and continue driving without a long disruption. This experience taught me valuable lessons about financial responsibility and the importance of building relationships with institutions that truly care about their members.”
