One of the most impactful experiences I have had as a Member Advocate at Suncoast Credit Union was helping a family navigate a significant financial hardship. The member was facing over $1,500 in combined monthly credit card and auto loan payments, making it nearly impossible to keep up with expenses. To make matters more challenging, the member’s mother was not working, and the father, who was not yet a Suncoast member, relied on their daughter for financial support. With limited income and mounting financial strain, the family was struggling to provide the necessities for the home.

Understanding the urgency of their situation, Suncoast Credit Union stepped in with a compassionate, member‑first approach. By refinancing the auto loan and providing a signature loan to consolidate credit card debt, we were able to cut their monthly payments by more than half, from $1,500 to just over $700. This reduction freed up essential income and allowed them to focus on supporting the mother in the home without overwhelming financial stress.

The impact was immediate and life‑changing. The father, who was previously not a member, was so grateful for the support that he joined Suncoast Credit Union. Now, every time they visit to make a payment, they take time to personally express their gratitude, reminding us why we do what we do.
