A Helping Hand At The Right Time

This story is about a member who is a regular at our high school branch. When he first came in to open his account, he did not know much about banking and had many questions. We were able to set him up with his own checking and savings accounts that only he had access to. A week or so later, he returned with paperwork to collect SSI benefits from his late father. His situation was complicated, and he truly needed help completing the forms. I sat down with him, walked through the paperwork, and answered all of his questions. He was extremely thankful and shared that it lifted a huge weight off his shoulders, as he had been very stressed about getting everything completed and turned in correctly. He is now set to receive $1,000 per month until he graduates high school this May. When asked what he planned to do with the income, he shared that he hopes to save for a car and a new guitar before heading to college. Because of this support, he can now focus on school, saving money, and enjoying the rest of his senior year without added financial burdens.
