Our member, Cheryl, came in and wanted a credit line increase for the small card that we approved her for during the government shutdown in late 2025. Cheryl receives SNAP benefits, so that credit card was essential for her during the shutdown. Her first application for an increase was unsuccessful, and I felt bad because she was telling me about her story. She is a retired teacher and was just getting by with her Social Security. She had some unfortunate events happen with her car, and her mechanic was allowing her to pay him back slowly for the repairs. She is appreciative of the mechanic but wanted to give him more because he has been helping her. She said the credit line increase will also help with other things she needs to pay for as well.
When she reapplied, it was approved. It was amazing to see, and it made me happy for her. When she came into the branch again, she told me how much the credit increase is going to help her and change her life. She gave me a huge hug, and I could see the tears in her eyes because of how much this was going to help her. She was so thankful.
