There’s Power In Belonging: Preston Vance’s Story

At Telhio Credit Union, we believe the best banking relationships go beyond the bottom line. They’re built on trust, community, and a genuine commitment to the people we serve.

Preston Vance knows what it means to build something from nothing and then do it all over again. The owner of a fleet maintenance and trailer repair company in Pickaway County, OH, Preston experienced a crisis that would have ended most businesses: a total-loss fire that destroyed his shop on April 16, 2016 — the very same day a $49,000 tax bill cleared his account, leaving him with zero funds and maxed credit.

“On paper, we were probably not going to make it,” he says. “But I never missed a single day of work.”

What kept Preston going was a partnership that started before the crisis. Telhio had already extended a line of credit early in his growth phase — looking past financials on paper to see the strength of Preston’s receivables and the character of the person behind the business. Working alongside the SBA, Telhio provided a first-of-its-kind 504 property development loan, giving Preston the foundation he needed to rebuild. By 2019, Preston’s business was profitable again and he had savings in the bank for the first time since before the fire.

“Telhio went to bat for me,” he says. “They saw that I never missed a day of work, and they believed in the vision when the numbers didn’t tell the whole story.”
