Billy goats? Set’em out to pasture.

Black cats? We’re dog people.

Overeager fans? Hey, there were at least seven people going for that ball.

These are the facts of the case and they are undisputed: The Chicago Cubs will win the 2016 World Series. Here, let us prove it.

Let’s Play Ball!

For our modeling, we’ve compared the financial performance of the 21 Cleveland-based credit unions against the 53 based in Chicago. Seven metrics. One winner.

First up, we measured the two credit union cities against one another based on year-over-year loan growth. This one’s not close. Chicago credit unions posted 7.77% growth, while Cleveland lags behind at 2.01%. Point, Cubs.

In this measure of interest income vs. interest outgo Cleveland reigns supreme. Unfortunately the win comes too little, too late.

The Bottom Line

The Chicago Cubs haven’t won the World Series since 1908, by far the longest title drought of any Major League Baseball team. The team with the second longest drought? The Cleveland Indians, who haven’t won since 1948.

And let’s be honest, the Cubs probably deserve this. They posted the most wins of any team during the regular season and have been the favorites to hoist the Commissioner’s Trophy since the start of the season.

But 108 years is a long time, and Cubs fans are a nervous bunch. So if you see one in the wild console them with this fact: the past 14 times the home team has won Game 1 of the World Series, they’ve ended up winning the whole thing.

And who won Game 1 at home? That’s right. The Cleveland Indians.

Wait.

Oh no.
