“An older couple came in one day inquiring about a loan. They had several high-interest credit cards, county property taxes due, vehicles that needed tires, and a letter from the IRS stating that it was owed money and they only had a small window to pay. They were low income, retired, and in a panic. I wanted to get them the best rate I could to help them get out of debt as quickly as possible, and it just so happened that they owned a truck that was paid off and free of any liens.
They did not have the highest credit score at 613, but they also did not have anything derogatory on their report. I spoke with my supervisor and was able to finance part of the value of the truck to pay off and close all of the credit cards, pay the property taxes, buy their vehicles new tires so they could be on the road safely, and pay the IRS. This saved them years and thousands of dollars in high-interest credit card debt and gave them some breathing room on their taxes. What started out as fear and uncertainty turned into a sigh of relief.”
