Rebuilding After Hurricane Loss

A well-known regular at the Plant City branch stops in frequently to check her account and spend time with the staff. During one visit, she shared the heartbreaking news that Hurricane Melissa had devastated her hometown in Jamaica. Her childhood home, along with the homes of several family members, was completely destroyed. While everyone was thankfully unharmed, the emotional toll was overwhelming. She explained that several of her family members were left without necessities such as food, clothing, and shoes. One situation that especially weighed on her was that her niece was still trying to attend school despite losing everything and having to walk to school barefoot. She shared her plans to travel to be with her family during this difficult time.

During the conversation, a team member suggested a Holiday Loan to help cover travel costs and provide funds for food and essential supplies. She sat down with me, and we completed the application right away. Shortly after, I had the pleasure of calling her to let her know she was approved for the full $3,000 loan amount. She later returned to the branch to finalize everything and share heartfelt hugs with the team, expressing how much their support meant to her. She even promised to take lots of photos of her family’s smiling faces with their food and the new clothes she planned to bring with her.

This experience was a powerful reminder of how simply listening and offering the right solution at the right time can truly make a difference.
