Shares for U.S. credit unions increased by $58.1 billion, pushing the portfolio past $1.2 trillion in the third quarter of 2018. Annual share growth remained positive at 5.0%; however it has decelerated 1.7 percentage points from this time last year.

Credit union auto loans have increased $35.8 billion, or 10.8%, over the past year to $365.3 billion as of September 30, 2018. Auto loans comprised 35.2% of the total loan portfolio in the third quarter.
